– Montefalco Sagrantino Ma.Gia D.O.C.G. 2020: 94 points
“The 2020 Montefalco Sagrantino Ma.Gia opens with a pleasantly earthy blend of crushed black cherries, cloves, owery undergrowth and cedar. It’s round and eshy in feel, with an elegant mix of ripe plums, blackberries and autumnal spice. Fine-grained tannins amass through the nish, as this tapers o structured and long with a cocoa tinge that lingers on and on. While from a warm and dry vintage, this Montioni Sagrantino maintains a classic feel.”

– Montefalco Sagrantino D.O.C.G. 2020: 93+ points
“The 2020 Montefalco Sagrantino is fresh and lively in the glass, wafting up with dusty rose and violet tones, crushed stone and blackberries. This is silky-smooth and supple with ripe red and black fruits supported by juicy acidity. Sour citrus and clove embellish the close. It tapers o long and staining, leaving a pleasantly bitter tinge and chewy sensation as hints of dark chocolate, licorice and ground clove linger through the complex and staining nish.”

–Montefalco Rosso D.O.C. 2021: 93 points
“The 2021 Montefalco Rosso is impossible to ignore. A whi of owery underbrush, tobacco and worn leather evolves to add dried black cherries and balsamic spice. This is soothingly round and supple, with silken textures and decadently ripe red berry fruits, all guided by a core of vibrant acidity. This leaves a tinge of brown spice and rum-raisins, nishing just gently tannic and incredibly long.“

Vinous reviews for Montioni’s wines in 2023 by Vinous:
– Montefalco Sagrantino Ma.Gia D.O.C.G. 2019: 94+ points
“The 2019 Montefalco Sagrantino Ma.Gia is youthfully backward, showing a hint of dried black cherry, sage and cedar. It comes to life on the palate, seductively smooth and enveloping, with juicy red and blue fruits washing across it like molten chocolate as exotic spices form toward the close. A slight tinge of heat pokes through without getting in the way as the 2019 finishes with tremendous length and structure, leaving a lingering bitter balsamic trace. The Ma.Gia will need time, and a lot of it. It’s a total charmer.”
– Montefalco Sagrantino D.O.C.G. 2019: 94 points
“The 2019 Montefalco Sagrantino slowly evolves in the glass with an earthy blend of crushed rocks and underbrush lifted by mint and split pine touches. The palate smooths over with an opulent blend of fleshy, ripe red and blue fruits complemented by sweet spices, sage and dark chocolate hints. Brisk acidity maintains fantastic balance through the structured finale, as grippy tannins tug at the cheek and cocoa nuances fade. There’s an opulent feel here, yet the 2019 remains harmonious throughout. This is pure class.”
–Montefalco Rosso D.O.C. 2020: 91 points
“The 2020 Montefalco Rosso seduces with its rich bouquet of crushed plums, sweet herbs and spiced blood orange. This impresses further with fleshy textures and masses of ripe red fruits perfectly balanced by vibrant acidity. It finishes long and potent yet lively, leaving the mouth watering and a slowly fading slight bitter tinge of balsamic spice. While cellar-worthy over the medium term, the Montefalco Rosso already shows quite well.”
– Umbria Grechetto I.G.T. 2022: 88 points
“The 2022 Umbria Grechetto is savory, with a flourish of wild herbs, tomato leaf and apricots forming its bouquet. It’s softly textured with subtle orchard fruits and saline minerals, tapering off with medium length and hints of green apple.”
Vinous reviews for Montioni’s wines in 2022 by Vinous:
– Montefalco Sagrantino Ma.Gia: 94 points
“Dusty yet floral, and fully of characer, the 2018 Montefalco Sagrantino Ma.Gia slowly comes to life. Spiced orange rinds, dried cherries and mint can all be found in the glass. It impressess further with the silkiest of textures coasting along a medium-bodied frame and depths of fleshy red berry fruits that resolve to reveal a coating of minerality. It finished long with subtle tannins and a resonance of licorice, yet not the structural oomph readers would expect from Sagrantino. this is pure elegance and a great achievement for the vintage”
– Montefalco Sagrantino: 93 points
“The 2018 Montefalco Sagrantino is moody and dark at first yet coaxing reveals a seductive mix of cherry and plum sauce, autumnal spice and tobacco. It’s soothlingly pliant and elegenat in feel, with opulent red and blue fruits that slowly stain the palate with fine tannins. While lightly structured the tannins are sweet and round allowing sweet herbal tones and pretty violet florals to linger on and on”
–Montefalco Rosso Montioni: 90 points
“Depths of black cherry are lifted by dusty rose and mentholated herbs as the 2019 Montefalco Rosso unfolds in the glass. It coasts along the palate, riding a brilliant core of bright acidity while delivering a balanced mix of ripe red fruits. The 2019s momentum never stops as it finishes only lightly tannic but long, revealing a pretty inner sweetness.”
Vinous reviews for Montioni’s wines in 2021 by Vinous:
– Montefalco Sagrantino Ma.Gia: 93 points
“The 2015 Montefalco Sagrantino Ma.Gia is like a kaleidoscope of Christmas goodness from the moment you put your nose to the glass. Cinnamon, allspice, clove, black cherries, dark chocolate, sweet mint and tobacco can all be found within. It’s silky-smooth and fleshy in feel, yet with stimulating acidity to balance, as mineral-tinged red berries and woodland herbal tones resonate throughout. The long and dramatic finale is only lightly structured, as fine tannins frame the experience nicely yet never get in the way, and tapers off with a juicy thrust of sweet fruit and hints of mocha. The Ma.Gia might be a bit of a showboat, but it’s also hard to resist.”
–Montefalco Rosso Montioni: 90 points
“The 2018 Montefalco Rosso is pretty and delicate with a mix of wild berries, minty herbs, white smoke and violet inflections. This is silky in texture yet lifted in feel, casting red and hints of blue fruit across a solid core of brisk acids and minerals. It tapers off classically dry with a coating of sweet tannin that lingers, along with hints of cherry, exotic spice and tobacco. The 2018 is a blend of 65% Sangiovese, 20% Merlot and 15% Sagrantino that refines in barriques for 12 months, which the wine handles very well.”
– Umbria Grechetto: 89 points
“The 2020 Grechetto is perfumed with spicy florals, sour melon and citrus tones. This soothes with wonderfully soft textures, becoming quite salty and mineral-like the more time you spend with it. Green apple and an almondy richness linger quite long, yet the end note here is crisp and refreshing.”
